About Me

My photo
I taught for several years at a residential school for children with emotional disabilities before staying home after the birth of my second daughter. I returned to teaching, finished my Educational Leadership program in May of 2012, and now work as our district's Writing and Social Studies Coordinator. I have always loved writing and find constant inspiration from my family. Maybe someday, I will get to see my name on the cover of a book!

Day #23: Spring Showed up for the Day

Happy to be slicing with the community of twowritingteacher.wordpress.com!

There have been many posts about spring this year, maybe because it's been so elusive. Spring was here yesterday and here's how I enjoyed it:

  • I wore flats without socks.
  • My nephews were here as they headed home to Florida from their Vermont vacation. We had a snowball fight in t-shirts. We also took pictures on the bench. This will make you laugh: they wanted to know where all the trees were since they have only ever visited before during the summer and right now, the trees are bare.
  • We took the dog on a long walk, avoiding the mud whenever possible, but enjoying watching him walking ahead of us with his tail held high.
  • We grilled hamburgers for lunch and served them with fresh salad, chips, and pineapple. It was like a summer picnic.
  • I took my car through the carwash and I didn't wince when I approached it in the parking lot later in the day.
  • I cheered Garth on as he cleaned out the garage which has been full of winter silt, clutter, and general acquisitions.
Today, it is supposed to be cold again. We even have snow in the forecast for the middle of the week. One of these days, there's bound to me a more consistent welcome to the intrepid snowdrops and crocuses that have been peeking through.

I'm ready.

Happy Day #23,

  1. I can't believe there could be more snow on Tuesday and I'm scheduled for a road trip on Wed to DC. But SPRING is here! Glad you could enjoy it yesterday :)
We grilled hamburgers for lunch and served them with fresh salad, chips, and pineapple. It was like a summer picnic. YES!

  2. I love it - the image of a slice - just a slice of spring!

  3. Sounds like a lovely day. We've had lots of warm ones, & more coming, but yesterday it snowed again. I've given up on the carwash-last time I did it, it snowed! Love your 'no socks' Melanie-can't wait!

  4. Sounds like a wonderful day. I enjoyed a few similar feelings - being outside without a coat, the warmth of the sun on my face, and seeing a bit of (brown) grass poking through the melting snow.

  5. A summer picnic on a Spring day - perfect!

  6. You have to embrace the moment because it is so fleeting. We will look like spring for a few days (sunshine, blue skies), but it will feel like winter (temps in the 40's). Glad you could savor one day.

  7. Warm days have been elusive around here, haven't they? I'm glad you had such a good time with your brother and his family!

  8. So happy to have had that little taste of spring... but now I want more!
