March is for daily slicing, and all are welcome! Join us at Two Writing Teachers!
For all of my years of participation in the SOLSC, my March 19 post has been dedicated to my second daughter, Julia, who is 22 today. It's a tough day to have a birthday this year, but there have already been several tough days, and there are going to be several more. Not too many parties happening right about now. At least it's not her 21st...
We don't have presents for her today. She asked for the registration of her summer soccer league as her birthday gift. We are all wondering whether there will be soccer this morning. While she won't be unwrapping gifts, I'm taking her on a ride past friends' houses, and they are ready to sing in the rain and hold up cards and posters. She has good friends. We'll make her cake. We'll play games. Maybe if the rain lets up, we'll take a birthday hike. It's supposed to clear up a bit this afternoon. Maybe we'll pay a visit to a favorite on-line website. I have a feeling her current #1 is Urban Outfitters, but we'll see about that.
This girl.
Wow, I love her.
Happy birthday, Julia. We'll make it as good as it can be!
It will be a birthday to remember for sure! I love the idea of driving her by her friends' houses. I applaud you for trying to keep a 22 year old at home. College kids have a mind of their own!
ReplyDeleteI always feel the pressure is on us Moms to make birthdays special. This will definitely be a birthday to remember. Gift certificates that you make as 'vouchers' to her favorite shopping or events can definitely give her something to look forward to. She will never forget this day or the way you tried to make lemonade out of lemons!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, Julia! It is a time when we can only make the best of each day. I love that her friends are ready to cheer. Jane will be 13 in nine days and I'm not ready. I'm hoping we can make the best too. Glad you are together and can celebrate, hug, and love the moment.
ReplyDeleteHappiest birthday to Julia. Your pacing in this piece is great. Your second paragraph of simple sentences really gets to the thoughts of the day. Enjoy your day with your beautiful girl!
ReplyDeleteAwww, happy birthday Julia! Your friends are so cute! I thought social distancing would help my wallet, but online shopping is one of my favorite socially distant activities....
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the cake!
