Slice of Life 2018: 9 of 31

For the month of March, I am participating in the Eleventh Annual Slice of Life Story Challenge. That means that I am writing every day for the month of March in the good company of the Two Writing Teachers community.

"Send pictures!" the girls texted from their respective colleges. "What does the snow look like?"
My husband was watching a game, so he used words and not pictures. "Crazy, thick, and wet," he wrote. "Bad for trees."

Emphasis on the last line.

Maybe Garth has magical powers because, on cue, the house shuddered and went dark.

Emphasis on shuddered. Literally shook.

Fortunately the tree that was the culprit did not fall on the house, but it did fall in the drivewat, and in so doing took out wires. And, not only did those wires connect our power, cable, and phones, they also now block access to all cars and garages.

We have food.
And a generator.
And books and games and projects.

All good, because we weren't going anywhere for a while.

Happy Slicing,

  1. I feel a twinge of guilt sitting here down south enjoying spring. Wow! I'm sorry about the tree. Another slicer wrote about going outside and shaking the snow off her tree to try to save it. That was quite a storm. Hope things clear soon.

  3. What a GREAT attitude. It's so weird to lose power especially when you're on your own. But what a crazy storm... Damn do I hate winter in February and March. How about you?

  4. Yikes! I am in CT and we just spent two days dealing with snow and power issues, especially after last Friday where we had wind and power issues! Life in New England is crazy!

  5. Wow - I can see why they want pictures. I love how you changed the pace of the piece with these lines:
    We have food.
    And a generator.
And books and games and projects.

It seemed to put things in perspective - almost like I could hear you thinking the list through in your head. Reminding oneself what matters.
Glad you are ok and hope you have power back!
