Slice of Life 2025: 14 of 31- Damn the television

Throughout the month of March, I am participating in the annual Slice of Life Story Challenge, an event hosted by the team at Two Writing Teachers. Every day in March, I will share a story and comment on the stories of other participants. Please join us in writing, sharing, reading, and commenting!

Given my current limited mobility (although watch out world because I'm walking more and more each day), Garth and I are trying to think up things to do together that don't involve him bringing me ice, dinner, knitting, computer, books or whatever else I'm demanding.

"How about we find a show to watch together?" he suggested.

Now, he's a much better show-watcher than I am. I don't have a lot of TV attention, so I'm left out of a lot of family and friend conversations about the latest hot series on Netflix. Seeing his point and appreciating his motivation, I collected some recommendations from trusted sources. Landman it would be.

When we got home last night from a delicious dinner at my mom's, he asked if I was up for the first episode.

C'mon Melanie, I thought to myself. You can stay up a little bit.

Disclosure: It was 7:40, and I was in bed. So, yeah, I probably could stay up a little bit.

I had a post to write and got to work typing while he worked on getting Landman on the big screen on the wall in front of our bed. When I glanced up from my post, he was struggling.

Disclosure: We usually struggle with the televisions. It is another reason I don't watch shows.

I was almost done with my post when my phone buzzed because of a text in the family chat. I was also almost done with my eyes staying open. Eight-thirty is the equivalent of midnight to me these days.

Apparently, Julia was in the middle of a lecture, so that log in information took a while to show up. In the meantime, I scheduled the post and pulled Landman up on my computer. Not the big screen, but it could work.

Gotta give Garth perseverance credit because he did get that Paramount Plus log in and got the show up and running on the actual television. Gotta give me stay-awake credit as well because I did make it through the first episode. And maybe a fist bump to the creators of the show. It was good! Maybe I'll make it through episode 2 tonight!

  1. I often feel a little left out of current pop culture because I also don’t watch tv. But the time I stop moving most days, I can’t keep my eyes open. Hooray for making it to 8:30 and also all the walking! ❤️Jess

  2. Disclaimer: Julia also had to text me for the paramount login because she didn't have it either!

  3. Melanie, I’m not sure what it says about me that I’d never heard of Landman until reading your post. 🫤 I wish I could fall asleep at 8:30 p.m. Soon the sun will be out until 10:00 pm here.
