Throughout the month of March, I am participating in the annual Slice of Life Story Challenge, an event hosted by the team at Two Writing Teachers. Every day in March, I will share a story and comment on the stories of other participants. Please join us in writing, sharing, reading, and commenting!

Sleep has been tricky with my new knee. I'm getting better at walking, but I'm still at about the level of my daughters when they were babies when it comes to sleeping through the night; they are fabulous adults and terrible sleepers. So I'm left with the nightly decision of how to handle the current plague of insomnia.
Thanks Mary Lee Hahn for the Wordle inspiration! I don't have a poem, but my 1 am wrestle with wordle offered a fair amount of alliteration. I'm a random first word Wordler, but in the middle of the night when I should have been sleeping, I went with Julia's go-to, STARE. I had a little jolt of excitement as I watched the first three letters turn green. Except then, I realized I could have some trouble. There are a LOT of five-letter words that start with STA. Staid, stall, stalk. Stack, stash, staff... uh oh.
I definitely could have been more strategic and saved myself the stress of still having options with my 6th guess, but who's strategic at 1:02 am?
I’ve don’t plenty of “can’t sleep” wordling. I bet you got a Phew! Hope you slept better last night! ❤️Jess
ReplyDeleteI just love when you get it on the last guess and Wordle says "PHEW!" That must be how you felt, at 1am. I did mine late as well and somehow 'stamp' came to mind quickly. When I get it on an early guess it says "impressive" but it should really just say "lucky!"
ReplyDeleteThis one gave me trouble, too. I think I squeaked it out just like you. I still have my original knees, but I get the insomnia anyway in March. I try not to go to my phone.
ReplyDeleteMelanie,
ReplyDeleteI’m an insomniac, too, so I fell down the spelling bee hole. I did pretty well—for me. I think I’ll eschew the wordle poem writing. That would keep me up even later. It is good, however, to have distractions when sleep evades us.
You did better today.
ReplyDeleteI have never played Wordle or any game on my phone! I think I worry I might like them and be on the phone more than I should. Hope you catch up on sleep soon.
ReplyDeleteOuch, that is one painful wordle. And you just sent some to Julia!
ReplyDeleteWhen I am up too late and the clock turns midnight, I always have the dilemma of whether to play the Wordle and Connections then or wait until morning. The middle of the night is never as good as the morning! I hope you sleep better this week. I slept in a recliner for the first two weeks after each of my knee replacements.
ReplyDeleteI love Wordle and have done it most days since the early Pandemic. I also do all the other NYTimes puzzles. Wordle is my favorite but Spelling Bee is GREAT. Try it - in the morning!
ReplyDeletePretty sure this one gave me trouble as well! The ones where the letters are so common is maddening; I throw my final guess in and wait with bated breath!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this middle of the night Wordle challenge!
