Slice of life 2018: 8 of 31

For the month of March, I am participating in the Eleventh Annual Slice of Life Story Challenge. That means that I am writing every day for the month of March in the good company of the Two Writing Teachers community.

The first year I took the slicing challenge, Larkin was fifteen.
"What are you doing?" my oldest daughter asked.
I explained, and she read my posts, as well as some of the other people's throughout the month.

The second year I took the slicing challenge, Larkin was sixteen.
"I want to do it too," she said.
We set her up with a blog, and she wrote her own posts.

Larkin not only stuck with it for the month, but she's been back year after year. She's become an honorary non-educator who slices, and she has shared her college experiences-- vicarious spring breaks, fraternity parties, exams, and projects have been shared-- as well as her semester abroad. Mostly, she's judicious in what she shares and what she leaves out...

This year, she's graduating from college. (HOW DID THAT HAPPEN???) She's swamped and emotional and I didn't remind her of March 1. Here's the text I got:

She mentions the interaction in her first (and late) slice this year, and she's much funnier that I am. http://larkinmeehan.blogspot.com/2018/03/day-6-whoopsies.html

I'm happy to report that Larkin's back in all her glory. I'm also happy to report that she is a writing minor--maybe we've all had something to do with that?! The picture book she's working on for one of her final projects is breath-taking.

Have I mentioned how much I love the SOLSC?

Happy Slicing,

  1. I was glad to see Larkin back this week. I had to laugh when she said you didn't remind her it was March. I've looked at her on-line gallery and all I can say is Wow!

  2. What a great project to share with your daughter! My children and I have done Write-Away Days together at The Writing Barn here in Austin, but that is nothing like sharing a month of writing together. I'm now hopping over to her post!

  3. I was so happy too! And she is funny -- truly funny. Her post yesterday sent me over the edge. I cried so hard I had to take a nap - truly! I gave her crazy mom advice. She is great and her illustrations are amazing. I agree with Elsie, Wow!
