Slice of Life 2020: 29 of 31- Ways to make writing harder

March is for daily slicing, and all are welcome! Join us at Two Writing Teachers!

This morning's post will be be short because it's a little harder to write this morning. There's a distraction, although I don't yet have a name for her. Final name nominations are due in our house at noon, and you are all welcome to contribute.

She bounces around, sort of uninterested in the toys that arrived in the Amazon box (that we opened with gloves) and much more interested in the hair scrunchie she found on the floor or the computer wires that she's discovered behind me or the pile of books with apparently tasty pages.

Every now and then, she comes over and jumps on me, sometimes on the keyboard. The last time she did this, my writing disappeared, and I don't know which key she hit. At least I have Control Z, so I was able to get it all right back.

Writing is hard enough without a puppy in your lap (or chewing on your slippers).

May you all be happy, healthy, and safe today, this final Sunday of the Slice of Life Story Challenge.

  2. May we all have such wonderful distractions! What a blessing this SOL challenge has been at this time in our lives. That, plus a puppy? Too much. Just too much...

  3. Wow, Melanie, a puppy. Love the way you open this post, making the reader worry-- what's wrong? She's personifying a distraction? Only to learn that you have a new life form in your house, and a cute one! Hope you are happy, healthy, and safe on this final Sunday of the SOLSC :)

  4. Now that's a great type of distraction, Melanie, especially during these trying times. The little bundle even provided a topic for your slice.

  5. During this time, my family is very much missing our dog that is no longer with us. I keep saying, had I known, I may have got a puppy. Enjoy!

  6. Right there with you. We got a puppy on March 14...good distraction and good writing material. I wish I could say that I saw this quarantine coming and that's why we did it, but it wouldn't be true. I wrote about missing my favorite spring distraction this morning.

  7. Adorable puppy. One day she’ll be your writing companion rather than a saboteur and distraction. Puppy needs a literary name.

  8. I thought your post would be about writing instruction or our work as writers. I love that it is all about a puppy! The sweetest little face too... a distraction yes, but I suspect it is a welcome distraction!!

  9. I love the tease you titled this slice with. I couldn't imagine what I would want to do to make writing harder. But I read anyway! Enjoy your puppy! What a great distraction.

  10. This would be beneficial to do with students, too! What makes writing harder now that they're doing more writing at home. I can't wait to hear her name!
